Love letters n kueh lapis Sunday, February 14, 2010 First day of chinese new year today- frankly i was nervous since i haven't met my mom's side family for many years. They were delightfully more successful, educated and just more there than my dad's kampung side who are too heck care to achieve much in life except for a few of course. Since my paternal grandparents are gone, there was no point going back malaysia anymore. So i wore my new light red dress with lace collar n my mom wore a swinging dress with flower patterns n my bro wore his club marc tiger shirt n my dad wore his yellow hush puppy shirt. We went to ah ma n ah fgong first and bumped into third aunt n family at the lobby. It was soooooo nice to see my cousins!!!! How much older they are n gabriel is in army!!! Ariel looked so much like gab n gretchen n aunt sally were just pekking at each other, which was pretty cute!! Aunt sally was in full force kebaya, red and look really nice! Said she got it for discount from a store at joo chiat ;) we all talked lots n ate the food. Ah ma's kueh lapis had dates in them... Me no like. Then we all went over to aunty mavis in the east. She still had her super long hair and told us about a suitor she had but she had to reject him coz she wanted to concentrate on meditation and achieve nirvana - her own words!!! Then we went over to see auncle kelly n aunty lily.aunty sally remembered the name wrongly and said they live at grace lodge- which is a retirement home!!!! But they are not, they live at another first name grace something house. Uncle kelly had the best energy. He pretty much shouted helllooo at us and was super friendly and adorable!!!! Their condo was those old school katong type and it was so cooling. They also planted lots including..... A banana tree!!!!!! Obviously everybody made pontianak jokes. Their kueh lapis was tons better, we went to peek n yes it was bengawan solo haha. Then uncle kelly had to entertain us n brought out his karaoke First was hillsongs in hokkien......!???!!! Second was malay songs n they kept comparing those words with their own. So cousin lenny took out his baba dictionary written by uncle's friend william gwee and had this baba competition which was hilarious!!!! Lenny kept saying baba malay was singlish malay lol. He works at DSTA n ariel said it stood for do salar try again... Lol!!!! And DSO was damn stupid organisation ;) Poor cousin agnes cant join us much coz she wasnt feeling well. Then uncle kelly sang bengawan solo and played his ten tenors dvd. Oh he was so jolly n adorable!!!!! Miss u tiffy, hope u get lotsa red packets too!!! I was feeling kinda down but im great now. Arrogant, moi? Thats coz u dont know me. Kisses to all | |
